Ultimate Heiken-AshiWhy ultimate?
It's very configurable (you can select to see the candles or a line, pick the colors, switch between Heiken-Ashi and normal candles, etc.).
In addition to standard Heiken-Ashi candles, it offers the option of a new, modified calculation of the candles different than the standard Heiken-Ashi calculation.
It can work based off the existing candles of the chart or it can force working based off normal candles regardless of any non-standard candles loaded in the current chart.
It can add the Heiken-Ashi calculation (or the modified one) twice, thus intensifying the effect.
FYI, you can disable the regular bars (so that they don't overlap with this indicator) by click on the eye icon next to the ticker on the very top left of the chart.
Manage risk and enjoy!

Phase Accumulation, Smoothed Williams %R Histogram [Loxx]Phase Accumulation, Smoothed Williams %R Histogram is a Williams %R indicator using dynamic inputs from Ehlers Phase Accumulation Dominant Cycle Period Algorithm. This indicator includes alerts and signals and is in a smoothed histogram form. The version of Phase Accumulation in this indicator is a modified form of of Ehlers algorithm to allow for better smoothing and cycle length selection.
What is Williams %R?
Williams %R , also known as the Williams Percent Range, is a type of momentum indicator that moves between 0 and -100 and measures overbought and oversold levels. The Williams %R may be used to find entry and exit points in the market. The indicator is very similar to the Stochastic oscillator and is used in the same way. It was developed by Larry Williams and it compares a stock’s closing price to the high-low range over a specific period, typically 14 days or periods.
What is Phase Accumulation?
The phase accumulation method of computing the dominant cycle is perhaps the easiest to comprehend. In this technique, we measure the phase at each sample by taking the arctangent of the ratio of the quadrature component to the in-phase component. A delta phase is generated by taking the difference of the phase between successive samples. At each sample we can then look backwards, adding up the delta phases.When the sum of the delta phases reaches 360 degrees, we must have passed through one full cycle, on average.The process is repeated for each new sample.
The phase accumulation method of cycle measurement always uses one full cycle’s worth of historical data.This is both an advantage and a disadvantage.The advantage is the lag in obtaining the answer scales directly with the cycle period.That is, the measurement of a short cycle period has less lag than the measurement of a longer cycle period. However, the number of samples used in making the measurement means the averaging period is variable with cycle period. longer averaging reduces the noise level compared to the signal.Therefore, shorter cycle periods necessarily have a higher out- put signal-to-noise ratio.

Included moving averages
ADXvma - Average Directional Volatility Moving Average
Linnsoft's ADXvma formula is a volatility-based moving average, with the volatility being determined by the value of the ADX indicator.
The ADXvma has the SMA in Chande's CMO replaced with an EMA, it then uses a few more layers of EMA smoothing before the "Volatility Index" is calculated.
A side effect is, those additional layers slow down the ADXvma when you compare it to Chande's Variable Index Dynamic Average VIDYA.
The ADXVMA provides support during uptrends and resistance during downtrends and will stay flat for longer, but will create some of the most accurate market signals when it decides to move.
Ahrens Moving Average
Richard D. Ahrens's Moving Average promises "Smoother Data" that isn't influenced by the occasional price spike. It works by using the Open and the Close in his formula so that the only time the Ahrens Moving Average will change is when the candlestick is either making new highs or new lows.
Alexander Moving Average - ALXMA
This Moving Average uses an elaborate smoothing formula and utilizes a 7 period Moving Average. It corresponds to fitting a second-order polynomial to seven consecutive observations. This moving average is rarely used in trading but is interesting as this Moving Average has been applied to diffusion indexes that tend to be very volatile.
Double Exponential Moving Average - DEMA
The Double Exponential Moving Average (DEMA) combines a smoothed EMA and a single EMA to provide a low-lag indicator. It's primary purpose is to reduce the amount of "lagging entry" opportunities, and like all Moving Averages, the DEMA confirms uptrends whenever price crosses on top of it and closes above it, and confirms downtrends when the price crosses under it and closes below it - but with significantly less lag.
Double Smoothed Exponential Moving Average - DSEMA
The Double Smoothed Exponential Moving Average is a lot less laggy compared to a traditional EMA. It's also considered a leading indicator compared to the EMA, and is best utilized whenever smoothness and speed of reaction to market changes are required.
Exponential Moving Average - EMA
The EMA places more significance on recent data points and moves closer to price than the SMA (Simple Moving Average). It reacts faster to volatility due to its emphasis on recent data and is known for its ability to give greater weight to recent and more relevant data. The EMA is therefore seen as an enhancement over the SMA.
Fast Exponential Moving Average - FEMA
An Exponential Moving Average with a short look-back period.
Fractal Adaptive Moving Average - FRAMA
The Fractal Adaptive Moving Average by John Ehlers is an intelligent adaptive Moving Average which takes the importance of price changes into account and follows price closely enough to display significant moves whilst remaining flat if price ranges. The FRAMA does this by dynamically adjusting the look-back period based on the market's fractal geometry.
Hull Moving Average - HMA
Alan Hull's HMA makes use of weighted moving averages to prioritize recent values and greatly reduce lag whilst maintaining the smoothness of a traditional Moving Average. For this reason, it's seen as a well-suited Moving Average for identifying entry points.
IE/2 - Early T3 by Tim Tilson
The IE/2 is a Moving Average that uses Linear Regression slope in its calculation to help with smoothing. It's a worthy Moving Average on it's own, even though it is the precursor and very early version of the famous "T3 Indicator".
Integral of Linear Regression Slope - ILRS
A Moving Average where the slope of a linear regression line is simply integrated as it is fitted in a moving window of length N (natural numbers in maths) across the data. The derivative of ILRS is the linear regression slope. ILRS is not the same as a SMA (Simple Moving Average) of length N, which is actually the midpoint of the linear regression line as it moves across the data.
Instantaneous Trendline
The Instantaneous Trendline is created by removing the dominant cycle component from the price information which makes this Moving Average suitable for medium to long-term trading.
Laguerre Filter
The Laguerre Filter is a smoothing filter which is based on Laguerre polynomials. The filter requires the current price, three prior prices, a user defined factor called Alpha to fill its calculation.
Adjusting the Alpha coefficient is used to increase or decrease its lag and it's smoothness.
Leader Exponential Moving Average
The Leader EMA was created by Giorgos E. Siligardos who created a Moving Average which was able to eliminate lag altogether whilst maintaining some smoothness. It was first described during his research paper "MACD Leader" where he applied this to the MACD to improve its signals and remove its lagging issue. This filter uses his leading MACD's "modified EMA" and can be used as a zero lag filter.
Linear Regression Value - LSMA (Least Squares Moving Average)
LSMA as a Moving Average is based on plotting the end point of the linear regression line. It compares the current value to the prior value and a determination is made of a possible trend, eg. the linear regression line is pointing up or down.
Linear Weighted Moving Average - LWMA
LWMA reacts to price quicker than the SMA and EMA. Although it's similar to the Simple Moving Average, the difference is that a weight coefficient is multiplied to the price which means the most recent price has the highest weighting, and each prior price has progressively less weight. The weights drop in a linear fashion.
McGinley Dynamic
John McGinley created this Moving Average to track price better than traditional Moving Averages. It does this by incorporating an automatic adjustment factor into its formula, which speeds (or slows) the indicator in trending, or ranging, markets.
McNicholl EMA
Dennis McNicholl developed this Moving Average to use as his center line for his "Better Bollinger Bands" indicator and was successful because it responded better to volatility changes over the standard SMA and managed to avoid common whipsaws.
Non lag moving average
The Non Lag Moving average follows price closely and gives very quick signals as well as early signals of price change. As a standalone Moving Average, it should not be used on its own, but as an additional confluence tool for early signals.
Parabolic Weighted Moving Average
The Parabolic Weighted Moving Average is a variation of the Linear Weighted Moving Average. The Linear Weighted Moving Average calculates the average by assigning different weight to each element in its calculation. The Parabolic Weighted Moving Average is a variation that allows weights to be changed to form a parabolic curve. It is done simply by using the Power parameter of this indicator.
Recursive Moving Trendline
Dennis Meyers's Recursive Moving Trendline uses a recursive (repeated application of a rule) polynomial fit, a technique that uses a small number of past values estimations of price and today's price to predict tomorrows price.
Simple Moving Average - SMA
The SMA calculates the average of a range of prices by adding recent prices and then dividing that figure by the number of time periods in the calculation average. It is the most basic Moving Average which is seen as a reliable tool for starting off with Moving Average studies. As reliable as it may be, the basic moving average will work better when it's enhanced into an EMA.
Sine Weighted Moving Average
The Sine Weighted Moving Average assigns the most weight at the middle of the data set. It does this by weighting from the first half of a Sine Wave Cycle and the most weighting is given to the data in the middle of that data set. The Sine WMA closely resembles the TMA (Triangular Moving Average).
Smoothed Moving Average - SMMA
The Smoothed Moving Average is similar to the Simple Moving Average (SMA), but aims to reduce noise rather than reduce lag. SMMA takes all prices into account and uses a long lookback period. Due to this, it's seen a an accurate yet laggy Moving Average.
Smoother
The Smoother filter is a faster-reacting smoothing technique which generates considerably less lag than the SMMA (Smoothed Moving Average). It gives earlier signals but can also create false signals due to its earlier reactions. This filter is sometimes wrongly mistaken for the superior Jurik Smoothing algorithm.
Super Smoother
The Super Smoother filter uses John Ehlers’s “Super Smoother” which consists of a a Two pole Butterworth filter combined with a 2-bar SMA (Simple Moving Average) that suppresses the 22050 Hz Nyquist frequency: A characteristic of a sampler, which converts a continuous function or signal into a discrete sequence.
Three pole Ehlers Butterworth
The 3 pole Ehlers Butterworth (as well as the Two pole Butterworth) are both superior alternatives to the EMA and SMA. They aim at producing less lag whilst maintaining accuracy. The 2 pole filter will give you a better approximation for price, whereas the 3 pole filter has superior smoothing.
Three pole Ehlers smoother
The 3 pole Ehlers smoother works almost as close to price as the above mentioned 3 Pole Ehlers Butterworth. It acts as a strong baseline for signals but removes some noise. Side by side, it hardly differs from the Three Pole Ehlers Butterworth but when examined closely, it has better overshoot reduction compared to the 3 pole Ehlers Butterworth.
Triangular Moving Average - TMA
The TMA is similar to the EMA but uses a different weighting scheme. Exponential and weighted Moving Averages will assign weight to the most recent price data. Simple moving averages will assign the weight equally across all the price data. With a TMA (Triangular Moving Average), it is double smoother (averaged twice) so the majority of the weight is assigned to the middle portion of the data.
The TMA and Sine Weighted Moving Average Filter are almost identical at times.
Triple Exponential Moving Average - TEMA
The TEMA uses multiple EMA calculations as well as subtracting lag to create a tool which can be used for scalping pullbacks. As it follows price closely, it's signals are considered very noisy and should only be used in extremely fast-paced trading conditions.
Two pole Ehlers Butterworth
The 2 pole Ehlers Butterworth (as well as the three pole Butterworth mentioned above) is another filter that cuts out the noise and follows the price closely. The 2 pole is seen as a faster, leading filter over the 3 pole and follows price a bit more closely. Analysts will utilize both a 2 pole and a 3 pole Butterworth on the same chart using the same period, but having both on chart allows its crosses to be traded.
Two pole Ehlers smoother
A smoother version of the Two pole Ehlers Butterworth. This filter is the faster version out of the 3 pole Ehlers Butterworth. It does a decent job at cutting out market noise whilst emphasizing a closer following to price over the 3 pole Ehlers.
Volume Weighted EMA - VEMA
Utilizing tick volume in MT4 (or real volume in MT5), this EMA will use the Volume reading in its decision to plot its moves. The more Volume it detects on a move, the more authority (confirmation) it has. And this EMA uses those Volume readings to plot its movements.
Studies show that tick volume and real volume have a very strong correlation, so using this filter in MT4 or MT5 produces very similar results and readings.
Zero Lag DEMA - Zero Lag Double Exponential Moving Average
John Ehlers's Zero Lag DEMA's aim is to eliminate the inherent lag associated with all trend following indicators which average a price over time. Because this is a Double Exponential Moving Average with Zero Lag, it has a tendency to overshoot and create a lot of false signals for swing trading. It can however be used for quick scalping or as a secondary indicator for confluence.
Zero Lag Moving Average
The Zero Lag Moving Average is described by its creator, John Ehlers, as a Moving Average with absolutely no delay. And it's for this reason that this filter will cause a lot of abrupt signals which will not be ideal for medium to long-term traders. This filter is designed to follow price as close as possible whilst de-lagging data instead of basing it on regular data. The way this is done is by attempting to remove the cumulative effect of the Moving Average.
Zero Lag TEMA - Zero Lag Triple Exponential Moving Average
Just like the Zero Lag DEMA, this filter will give you the fastest signals out of all the Zero Lag Moving Averages. This is useful for scalping but dangerous for medium to long-term traders, especially during market Volatility and news events. Having no lag, this filter also has no smoothing in its signals and can cause some very bizarre behavior when applied to certain indicators.

What are Heiken Ashi "better" candles?
The "better formula" was proposed in an article/memo by BNP-Paribas (In Warrants & Zertifikate, No. 8, August 2004 (a monthly German magazine published by BNP Paribas, Frankfurt), there is an article by Sebastian Schmidt about further development (smoothing) of Heikin-Ashi chart.)
They proposed to use the following:
(Open+Close)/2+(((Close-Open)/( High-Low ))*ABS((Close-Open)/2))
instead of using :
haClose = (O+H+L+C)/4
According to that document the HA representation using their proposed formula is better than the traditional formula.
What are traditional Heiken-Ashi candles?
The Heikin-Ashi technique averages price data to create a Japanese candlestick chart that filters out market noise.
Heikin-Ashi charts, developed by Munehisa Homma in the 1700s, share some characteristics with standard candlestick charts but differ based on the values used to create each candle. Instead of using the open, high, low, and close like standard candlestick charts, the Heikin-Ashi technique uses a modified formula based on two-period averages. This gives the chart a smoother appearance, making it easier to spots trends and reversals, but also obscures gaps and some price data.
Expanded generic source types:
Close = close
Open = open
High = high
Low = low
Median = hl2
Typical = hlc3
Weighted = hlcc4
Average = ohlc4
Average Median Body = (open+close)/2
Trend Biased = (see code, too complex to explain here)
Trend Biased (extreme) = (see code, too complex to explain here)

Better Heiken-Ashi Candles w/ Expanded Source Types [Loxx]Better Heiken-Ashi Candles w/ Expanded Source Types is an indicator to compare regular candles to traditional Heiken-Ashi candles to "better" Heiken Ashi candles. This indicator and comparison study appears an oscillator. The purpose of this indicator is to demonstrate a better way to calculate HA candles and also to demonstrate expanded source types. This indicator is meant to be used by advanced Pine Coders who wish to add fine-tuning to their indicators and strategies.

What's going on with this indicator?
- First, we have the options to select the candlestick type: Regular, HA, HA Better
- Next, and to demonstrate the expanded source types, I've added a simple moving average. In the drop down for the SMA source you'll notice something very different from the typical TradingView source selector. Here's how to decode the new names for the sources:
Close = close
Open = open
High = high
Low = low
Median = hl2
Typical = hlc3
Weighted = hlcc4
Average = ohlc4
Average Median Body = (open+close)/2
Trend Biased = (see code, too complex to explain here)
Trend Biased (extreme) = (see code, too complex to explain here)
... for HA and HA better, see the same set up as above but with different open and close values to calcualate the other source types
- For the HA better calculations, we run the close value through either an Adaptive, Kaufman, or T3 smoothing filter. The length for these smoothing filters, either 2 or 3, can be found in the code and is a constant value that shouldn't be changed. This smoothing is in inline with what is described in the article mentioned above
- Lastly, I've placed an SMA over the oscillator so that the user can test out the various sources explained above

============
- Description:
This indicator shows a 3 Multi Time Frame (MTF) Heiken Ashi candlestick oracle.
It shows 3 different lines with changes between bullish and bearish Heiken Ashi candlesticks for 3 automatic or custom timeframes.
It has alerts for LONG and SHORT (when all timeframes agree in the same candle).
- Visual:
Each line represents the color of the Heiken Ashi candlestick on a different timeframe, by default, green is bullis and red is bearish.
A square (configurable) shows the change between bullish and bearish.
When the combination of the 3 timeframes occur (3 bull or bear) the background is highlighted, after that as long as they agree the background will remain with that color.
- Customization:
As usual in my indicators, everything is customizable, timeframes are auto, but you can pick yours, colors, figures etc.
- Usage and recommendations:
Everything is good by default, it's recommended to use a x3 or x4 multiplier for the timeframes, example: 5 min, 15 min, 45 min or 5 min, 20 min and 60 min.
Personally, I use this in 1-3 min for scalping getting the very first time the 3 timeframes agree usually gives awesome entries.
Enjoy!

Plot Real Open and Close - SamXI built this indicator as a personal request from a friend. He often trades using Heiken Ashi charts, but wanted a way to easily cross-reference real-price open and close values for the same timeframe on the same chart (as HA candles are by design lagging, they can take a few periods to catch up to a large move). This can also be used to help guide support and resistance zones using real-price data points should you so choose.
There are 2 major ways to configure this indicator to display real-price open and close:
As a Bar or Hollow Candle style chart overlay
As on-chart shapes (allowing individual control over which data to show - open, close, or both)

Heiken Ashi Pivot Breakout Trailing StopThis is a heiken ashi pivot based trailing stop for breakout entries and exits. It's possibly related to the Swing Index System by Welles Wilder or an alternative to it that I came up with, in case determining the swings on the Accumulative Swing Index is too much of a burden. It is believed that the ASI uses the calculation of heiken ashi in its formula. This does not use the ASI as a bottom indicator in the chart but instead uses the heiken ashi bars on the top of the chart to objectively find the swing pivots . These swings pivots act as support and resistance and can be used to confirm the start of a breakout or the end of one.
Suppose you find a chart pattern or setup, such as divergence or a pennant in the RSI , a pattern on the ASI, and/or on the chart, or the end of an elliot wave , etc and want to confirm a strong breakout and ride it to the end. Many trailing stops won't be able to confirm the beginning or would last too long or not long enough to exit out of one. On an uptrend, when the price breaks below the last swing low pivot , it can confirm the end of the breakout. On a downtrend, when the price breaks above the last swing high pivot , it can confirm the end of the breakout.
This trailing stop is not meant to replace trend following ones. The swing pivots can vary yet the price can still continue at an uptrend whereas this heiken ashi pivot based trailing stop exits as soon as it goes above or below the last resistance point. These swing points can end up being too close for trend following but can work well for breakout trading. The bigger the chart pattern or breakout, the more reliable the exit signal will be in my opinion. This is an experimental idea that I came up with from trying to interpret the ASI.
Swing Index System - Heiken Ashi Pivot Breakout StrategyFor Educational Purposes. Results can differ on different markets and can fail at any time. Profit is not guaranteed.
This only works in a few markets and in certain situations. Changing the settings can give better or worse results for other markets. This is a breakout strategy that uses the heiken ashi bars to find the support and resistance levels or the swing pivots to try to objectively find a breakout. When the price breaks out of a swing pivot, breakout can be confirmed and a strategy can be made. The trade exits as soon as in profit when the heiken ashi bar changes color, when the price swings start to slow down, or when the price breaks below a swing pivot. There might be many strategies and possible ideas that can be made just from knowing where the swing pivots are alone. For this one, I decided to try to emulate Wilder's Adam Theory approach by entering only a specific criteria when it makes new highs or lows that I experimented with. The Swing Index System seems to be similar to what he describes in his book (or perhaps it is the same thing).
Some say that price is the ultimate indicator, but not many really know what that really means. This is yet another approach to try to interpret what that means. This strategy only contains a piece of the complete breakout and trend strategy approach of the Adam Theory and won't be profitable in every market under every situation. This does not include price patterns that the Swing Index System is said to be able to find such as chart patterns, wedges, tops/bottoms, etc. This only includes the small breakout portion requirement in the book. I included specific entry and exit criteria to make the strategy work well that involves nothing but the price action of the swing points only due to the lack of the other missing pieces. It does not contain the missing pieces. Despite this, it can still help find where breakouts might be in an objective matter using the Swing Index System as a standalone trading system and it doesn't involve lookbacks or anything but price alone.
BERLIN CandlesA problem with Heikin Ashi is that while it gives you a great overview of overall direction, it is rarely possible to use it as a replacement for normal japanese
candlesticks. The reason for this is that actual price data is lost, since the candles are more akin to a moving average than a different way to see price action. Also, with Heikin Ashi, most of the actual price action is lost, because the candles can be bigger than the high and low of the underlying japanese candlestick.
With BERLIN Candles I have tried to fix that problem. By using a smoothed out version of the previous Heikin Ashi candle close as the current BERLIN Candle open, the high and low of the actual japanese candlestick for the high and low of the BERLIN Candle, and the current Heikin Ashi close as the BERLIN Candle close, while setting hard limits for BERLIN Candle open and close values so that they can never exceed the high and low of the underlying japanese candlestick.
One problem still persists though. The actual current price data is lost. However, the BERLIN Candles have solved this by adding a fifth part to the candles. The close of the underlying japanese candlesticks are indicated with a plus-sign. This way, actual price data is never lost, while keeping all of the other benefits of this type of candles.
A few added bonuses:
The addition of the 14 period ATR at the latest candle
The baseline from Ichimoku is included as an option
The 14 period ATR value of each candle can be seen in the indicator data as
the orange value
[RESEARCH] Heikin-Ashi Chart IdentifierA deterministic approach to identify Heikin-Ashi chart type.
The script checks the next statements about HA:
HA chart does not have any gaps in a classic sense
Every new HA open price is calculated using a specific recurrence formula. This fact also means that initial HA open price is used to calculate all the next and so on (a construction of Infinite Impulse Response filters)
The script works correctly being applied to other chart types:
Classic Candlestick
Range Bars
Line Break
Traditional Renko
ATR Renko
Traditional Point-and-Figure
ATR Point-and-Figure
Kagi
For special ones: this code allows you to check whether your script is being executed with Heikin-Ashi candles or not inside your script.

Crypto-Sticks Ehler Adaptive Center of Gravityby Cryptorthyhms🥢 Crypto-Sticks™: Ehler's Adaptive Center of Gravity
A new series of indicators brought to you by Cryptorthyhms...giving you an alternate look at your trusted favorites! Follow me, there are still 2 dozen Crypto-Sticks indicators planned - all will be released in public library.
🚀 Indicator Specific Info
🐻Thanks to Lazybear for posting the original EACG code I updated to create this indicator! (give that man a follow/thumbsup, hes a legend!)
New Crypto-Sticks option is an EMA of the average signal line output. Eventually I will go back and update the previous indicators with this feature as well!
⛔Please remember that this indicator is ADAPTIVE. The overbought and oversold ranges do not correspond to specific values. This does make it a bit harder to signal with, but its a great indicator nonetheless.
Heiken Ashi candles (default) adds some more clear trend changing points.
Volume weighting the HA candles adds a different dimension to the indicator which I have to explore more fully. VW does work okay on this indicator, skewing output but also adding some noise. An example of VW+HA:
💭Please leave me any ideas or feedback you have!
🚫If you use volume weighting you should be on heiken candles.
🚀 Crypto-Sticks General Info
🚧This series isnt polished 100%, and I have some more options I will add in the future. But for now, I want to just release them, as I am not sure when I will have the time to put more work into them (many other big projects I am working on).
📊Its basically reinterpretations of all your favorite indicators. I calculate the values a little bit differently than normal, but the end result is creating a candlestick chart (for the indicator!). Then I added the option to plot them as Heiken Ashi candles to smooth out noise and make signaling easier. I recommend using the indicator on this setting.
🔊Lastly I implemented a Volume Weighting system for them all which simply integrates volume into the formulas for these indicators. For the most part this feature is experimental and doesn't provide huge utility (yet - I have other ways I want to try it as well - just no time). Though on some of the indicators it already shows great promise.
👍Enjoying this indicator or find it useful? Please give me a like and follow! There are many more indicators to be released in this series, not to mention I post crypto analysis and other free indicators regularly.

⛔Please remember that you may have to adjust the overbought and oversold levels to suit the volatility of the instrument you are working with. In the future I will implement a feature that does this automatically, but for now its manual.
Heiken Ashi candles (default) adds some more clear trend changing points which can be executed at the second candle going in either direction. Other coins/charts will require their own strategy - you could potentially have to tweak that parameter. In this example you would enter on 2nd green, exit on 2nd red. HA Example:
Volume weighting the HA candles adds a different dimension to the indicator which I have to explore more fully.. In my opinion VW does not provide any benefit as is for this indicator. I left the option in for you though as YMMV. An example of VW+HA:
