Chainlink is an Oracle network that services various blockchains, protocols, and projects within Web3 and the broader cryptocurrency industry. Oracles provide a way for blockchain-based systems and protocols to access data that exists outside the blockchain. For example, Ethereum can compute each account’s balance of ETH tokens, but it cannot compute the price of an ETH token, as that data depends on offchain inputs such as centralized exchanges. Chainlink’s Decentralized Oracle Network (DON) provides a solution to this issue while attempting to limit or prevent centralization concerns that arise when utilizing offchain data.
