As an analyst, I am observing that the trend of AU is currently on an upward trajectory, as evidenced by the movement of its 20 day, 50 day, and 200 day exponential moving averages. The relative strength index and the commodity channel index are also showing bullish signals, with the RSI converging with price action and shooting above the 50 line and the CCI trending up on the 4H timeframe. However, I am also noting that price has not yet started to turn up above the 200 day EMA and the Bollinger band shows a trend up with the mid line below price. Based on this, I am looking to close my long position if price settles below the last LH marked with a stop line, with the expectation that price will consolidate above the 200 day EMA.
In addition to this analysis, I am also noting that the Australian employment unexpectedly declined in December, while the unemployment rate held steady at 3.5%. Despite this, certain industries and companies are performing well, such as heavyweight iron ore miners like BHP Group, Rio Tinto, and Fortescue Metals, as well as the "Big Four" banks and technology, healthcare, gold, and lithium stocks. In corporate news, AGL Energy has named interim boss Damien Nicks as its permanent chief executive.
